Sustainable Winchester Founder Given Leadership Award

A community project leads to a civic leadership award for promoting sustainability.

LEN - civic awardThe League of Women of Winchester, Massachusetts, has given its Civic Leadership Award to Carolyn Starrett, in recognition of her work to protect the environment and educate others about sustainability. Starrett is the founder of Sustainable Winchester, a nonprofit which educates residents about recycling, and supports and encourages them to make environmentally friendly decisions.

Over the past eight years, the organization has worked to provide residents free energy assessments, volunteered at town recycling events and supported the locals farmers market.

Starrett attributes her activism to participating in a Landmark leadership program which required her to undertake a community project, which was the subject of an article in the Winchester Star.
