Andy Carman- Creating Opportunities to Preserve Our Environment

Landmark Graduate Andy Carman, a Santa Cruz resident, is making a difference in the community by connecting local residents with volunteer opportunities that focus on protecting and preserving the planet.

Carman, who is passionate about environmental conservation, recognized a need for a platform that would match individuals with organizations and causes that align with their interests and skills. In response, he created a website called Environteers, that serves as a hub for volunteer opportunities in the Santa Cruz area.

Through his website, Carman has been able to connect volunteers with organizations working on a wide range of environmental issues, including coastal conservation, water quality, and wildlife habitat restoration. His efforts have helped to increase community engagement and support for environmental causes.

One volunteer, who participated in a beach cleanup organized by Carman, said, “I had no idea there were so many opportunities to get involved in environmental conservation right here in Santa Cruz. Andy’s website made it easy for me to find something that fit my schedule and interests.”

Carman’s work has not gone unnoticed. He has been recognized by local organizations for his contributions to environmental conservation and community building.

Despite his successes, Carman remains humble and focused on his mission to connect more people with volunteer opportunities that make a positive impact on the planet. He said, “I believe that small actions, taken by many, can lead to big change. I am just happy to be a part of that change.”

Thank you so much for publishing this article!
I really appreciate the acknowledgement!
I’d like to make these additions.
1. The nonprofit Environteers.org (link: https://environteers.org) and the website were created in my SELP course in 2016.
2. The Environteers Weekly Update email newsletter (last edition link: https://mailchi.mp/c05d6210f806/environteers-weekly-update?e=298d639b33) is the best environmental newsletter in the world, for Santa Cruz County, and is read by over 650 people each week! (When people first hear this “best in the world, for Santa Cruz County” assertion they smile, then reflect and realize that it is the only environmental newsletter publicizing all of the educational and volunteer activities of our 100 local organizations .)
